The House

The house is a traditional Andalucian cortijo, with living accommodation and outhouses built around a vine covered courtyard. It is difficult to tell how old it is as it has been added to over the years, the ceilings in most of the rooms are of rough beams. Along with the traditional construction and features we have modernised the house to include central heating and three modern shower rooms. There is a modern kitchen with range cooker (gas/electric), dishwasher, larder fridge. An additional fridge freezer is provided in the living room for those cold beers etc. The living room opens onto a shaded terrace furnished with dining tables and chairs. The terrace overlooks the pool and garden.

Whilst there is no air conditioning, the traditional construction of the house (thick walls, small windows with shutters) means that by shutting windows and doors during the day, opening them at night (all have fly screens) and using the fans we provide in every room it is possible to maintain a comfortable temperature.

Off the courtyard is a utility room, with washing machine, iron and ironing board, toilet and hand basin.

Outside

In front of the house is a large space for parking cars. The land, just over one acre (3000m2), has a number of olive trees and fruit trees as well as a walnut tree. Around the 8m x 4m pool are wide terraces with ample sun loungers for all guests. The terrace is walled for shelter and a covered pergola provides shade. There is outdoor lighting for those balmy evenings by the pool, and the six plus seater spa is perfect for relaxing.

Two streams meet at the end of the garden, the Adelantado, and the Cerezo. These can vary from raging torrents in the winter, to a mere trickle in summer, but mean that there is always green in the valley, the trees providing cover for a variety of birds. The olive clad hills around the house give way to views down the valley.

Casa Del Abuelo has been inspected by Junta de Andalucia and is registered as an approved Vivienda Rural.
